Starting during the economic crash of 2008, Karelle saw her number of boutiques plummet from over 40 worldwide to just 3 overnight. In response, she creatively reused fabric remnants from past collections to develop a unique performance art fashion piece called KREL 2 go, Quickie Couture. Traveling with a suitcase filled with her signature knits, a sewing machine, safety pins, scissors, and a Polaroid camera, she offered a truly interactive textiles experience. Her trunk shows became a collaborative fashion experience, popping up at galleries, fairs, boutiques, hotel lobbies, fundraisers, and raves. During these events, fabrics were draped, pinned to fit, cut, and sewn in timeframes ranging from 20 minutes to an hour, showcasing the adaptability and creativity of her Quickie Couture made in Miami, New York, LA, Iceland, Berlin, and Costa Rica.
